
Mario has a wealth of experience in the operational, commercial and strategic management of life science companies. In 1989 he was one of the co-founders of Oxford Chirality which later became Oxford Asymmetry International and then Evotec. Mario subsequently progressed to become Chief Executive Officer of Oxford Asymmetry International at the time of its acquisition by Evotec Biosystems in 2000. Currently he is Chief Operating Officer at Evotec and serves as a Non-Executive Board Director on a number of small biotech companies.
Mario gained a BA in Natural Sciences at Hertford College, Oxford in 1985. He completed his DPhil studies under Professor Steve Davies in the field of Mechanistic Organometallic Chemistry followed by a Post Doctoral Research Assistantship with Prof Sir Jack Baldwin in Aspects of Penicillin Biosynthesis at Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a former Sainsbury Management Fellow.
